Volkswagen is constantly reinvigorating their lineup in one way or another, whether it’s with advanced technology or enhanced performance systems. This time around, the engineers at VW have truly outdone themselves. Starting late 2016, the German automaker will introduce a new turbocharged engine that will be introduced to many VW models in late 2016.

The EA211 turbocharged engine gets a displacement of 1.5L and has a torque from as low as 1,300 RPM, to give drivers a peppy ride and enhanced fuel economy. In addition, this direct injection engine features a 12.5:1 compression ratio, as well as cylinder deactivation and integrated exhaust manifold.

To increase the engine’s responsiveness, the turbocharger provides high turbine output and charge pressure at low speeds. The 1.5L turbocharged engine will eventually replace the 1.4L turbo-four currently found in Volkswagen models.

For now, it’s unclear as to which models the 1.5L turbo engine will be placed in. While you wait for this engine’s induction into the VW lineup, check out vehicles like the VW Jetta that are currently equipped with the 1.4L engine.
